 The American Red Cross

The Polk County Chapter always needs volunteers to provide the many services of the Red Cross. Below is a list of some of the ways you can serve.

Blood Services

Blood Services Greeter – Greets donors upon arrival and completes necessary steps to guide donors into the donation room. The greeter checks off donor appointment times, coordinates walk-in donors, has donors read required materials, has them sign in, and shows them to the donor room.

Blood Services Canteen Assistant – Serves donors something to eat and drink after the donation process, encourages donors to sign the reminder sheet, watches for signs of dizziness, provides nurses with ice packs, and thanks the donors for donating.

Blood Services Assistant Coordinator – Assists the Volunteer Services Specialist in coordinating greeter and canteen assistant volunteers for the blood center and blood mobiles. Makes phone calls, performs scheduling, and finds volunteers to fill open positions.

Emergency Services

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member – Assists Red Cross in providing relief to victims of disaster and helps prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Provides timely response to disasters and assistance to victims, responds to disaster teams, and provides Red Cross services.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Leader
– Assists Red Cross in providing relief to victims of disaster and helps prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Provides leadership and technical guidance to assigned staff, organizes and assumes overall responsibility for unit, submits reports, and interprets policies.

Health & Safety Services

Health & Safety Office Volunteer – Helps with the administrative side of the Health & Safety Department. Answers incoming calls, enters data into CHERS database, files, and performs other office duties as needed.

Health Fairs, Community Fairs, Speakers Bureau – Assists Red Cross in presenting its programs to the community at health fairs and community events. Educates the public about Red Cross services and volunteer opportunities.

Health & Safety Instructor – Instructs the public in Health & Safety classes such as first aid, CPR, water safety, HIV/AIDS education, and others.

Blood Pressure Screening Staff
– Provides community with a free and convenient way to monitor blood pressure and offers advice to improve blood pressure. Keeps statistics for clients who have blood pressure checked, uses equipment efficiently, and encourages any person with high or low blood pressure to seek medical attention

Spanish Translator

Spanish Translator – Provides translation and/or interpretation services for non-English speaking individuals.  Work as a liaison with Spanish speaking members of the community.
